City Feed and Supply is now taking pre-orders for Vermont-raised Misty Knoll Farms turkeys for the upcoming holiday season! Although we have carried fresh poultry for past holidays, we are trying a few different things this year, and we want to take a minute to fill you in:
First and foremost, a shout out to the producer, Misty Knoll Farms — we believe in the quality of this product! Misty Knoll Farms is a family-run operation in Rutland, Vermont which raises some of the best-tasting and highest-quality poultry in the country. We carry their ground turkey (makes our favorite turkey burgers, flat out!) and chicken every week in our store, and it has gained a loyal following in the neighborhood.
On Monday, November 19th, a few folks from City Feed and Supply will pack up a 14ft refrigerated truck, and run it 400+ miles to Rutland, VT and back, thereby personally procuring each holiday bird for our customers. We believe that investing in a direct relationship with the vendors whose values and standards align with ours is a recipe for a sustainable local food economy, which constitutes a core value of our business.
What does that mean to you, our loyal customer?
1. The freshest birds available. The birds will be packed and transported cold but not frozen, having been processed within days of Thanksgiving.
2. The opportunity to ask direct questions about your birds, from folks who have witnessed the operation with their own eyes.
3. The knowledge that your money will support your preference for supporting local industry, which includes working with folks you know, from your neighborhood, who everyday wake up excited to tackle the challenges of growing our local food economy in a transparent (and fun) way.
Our goal for this operation is to bring 2000 lbs of pasture-raised Vermont turkeys into our neighborhood, at a fair price. We believe that if we can secure pre-orders in that quantity we will have made a significant step in building a foundation that will allow City Feed and Supply to provide the best tasting, highest quality, most ethically raised Turkeys to the neighborhood we love to serve.
